5 layer cutting board. Dimensions are 12.5" x 18". The cutting board is constructed of black walnut wood for the 2 dark strips and either oak or cherry wood for the other 3 strips. The separate boards are jointed and planned down to 3/4" thickness and edge glued together. Once the glue is dry it is cut down to size, is sanded smooth and then the edges are routered with a round over bit for the decorative edges. The wood sealer / finish is Howards cutting board oil, which is available at the home centers. a total of 4 coats are applied to fully seal and treat the wood. The Howards cutting board oil is a food safe mineral oil designed for cutting boards / butcher blocks.
